Don't read today if you are at all fond of small garden eating vermin......

I'll say it again:
Don't read today if you are at all fond of small garden eating vermin......

That being said; I have had a huge problem with these stupid little gopher lookin things getting into my garden. I have sucessfully been able to keep out all those crazy rabbits but I now have a more annoying problem. Sooooo we decided to test out our survival skills and see if we could trap and kill these little buggers! We have tried a couple different traps including snares and some weird homemade concoction but we finally had success with the trap that I made today. I caught that stupid jerk and he will eat my cucmbers no more. And Piper is very happy that he is with Jesus now. LOL!! So here is what I did...

Here is one of his stupid holes.

The bait

I took two flat stepping stones. One on the ground and one being proped up

The trap set up in front of his dumb little gopher house.

He thought he was so cool eating his little strrawberry.

We hooked up a fishing line to the little stick holding up the stick.

Then I waited......and when the time was right, I reeled in the line and....... SPLAT!!!!!!! No more stupid little gopher thingy eating my cucumbers(for now)! I would like to note that Piper was very happy to here that the gopher is ith Jesus now. LOL!

"THE SLIPPERS! THEIR GONE! wHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH THE RUBY SLIPPERS?!" shrivel shrivel shrivel....

And that, my friends, is how you catch a gopher thingy in your back yard!

Fun things to do in 110 degree weather...

I don't know about you, but when the weather gets hot,  like....well.....i don't know 110 degrees, I get excited to go outside and do some back breaking sweat inducing labor!(insert sarcasm here)

To add to our very long list of possible things that could have gone wrong on the farm, after the rain storm we found out we had a HUGE leak in the roof that needed to be fixed ASAP! SO up on the roof we went. We spent a total of about 10 hours on the roof in 110-112 degrees with high humidity. After we were all done it felt so rewarding until.......... we realized the roof leaked worse then before! As Charlie Brown would say, ARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGG!!!!!! After all that hard work what else could we do BUT have an underwear movie party with the kids? Everyone ate junk food and watched Rapunzel in their skivvies. I will say that WAS a good way to spend a hot day.
Another good activity to participate in on a ridiculously hot day is to bathe goats and trim hoofs. Goat+water=Amanda is crazy for thinking this wouldn't take long.  Good times, good times.

And last but not least if all else fails and you can't think of anything better to do, there are always weeds that need to be hoed. I have to hoe weeds by hand because the weed wacker was suddenly attacked out of nowhere by a very large rock while you were cutting weeds down. There was no saving him.....he was too far gone. RIP little Weed Wacker....

I look like I'm having fun....right??

Almost done... Or ARE we???

Very excited for the underwear party!

hmmmm what to eat?

Rapunzel seemed to enjoy herself too... I hate that doll!! LOL!

At least she thought she was helping

"She works hard for the money!"

Why didn't I think of this earlier??

I just like this picture so you have to see it too!

Recipe for Rain....

Recipe For Rain
2 cups of "water garden thoroughly in the morning because you think it has no chance of raining"
1 cup of "wash every sheet and blanket you own and hang out to dry on the clothes line"
1tbsp of "just washed the van yesterday"
And a dash of "power tools laying all over the yard"

Mix all ingredients together early in the morning while thinking you are awesome for getting things done around the house. Wait about 1 hour and realize it has started raining. Run around like an idiot trying to take down all the sheets and blankets, roll up windows in all cars, and pick up all the tools strewn about what seems like the biggest yard in the world as you get drenched wondering if you are the tallest thing around right now cause you just saw a bolt of lighting shockingly close to where you are standing. If desired add a pinch of "walk into house after it's almost done raining only to realize that the roof you just fixed 2 months ago is leaking all over your floor and now you have a big hole in your ceiling"  Then run around like a looney toon with your kids until you and them are soaked down to your underwear jumping in large puddles and making mud pies. Enjoy!!

There are mountains behind that rain coming our way

Ahhhhhhhhh

Woo hoo!

The ducks loved it as much as we did!

Soaking wet but havin fun

Ummm nice face LD

Ta Da!! I made it rain!!

My poor poor muddy house!

"I'm SWINGIN in the rain! Just swingin in the rain!"

Muddy face from puddles

Mater

What is that out there in my, soon to be, orchard?

AH HA!! Mud pie chefs!

The goats were NOT happy with me for making the rain

Ummmm yeah that's my ceiling after rain apparently.

4th of July, 2nd try and fun with levers...

This morning after the kids were done with school I let them do playdough. By the way I'm pretty sure I'm the only mom that LOVES playdough! Ha ha ha! He got a shape cutter thing stuck in the little cup and couldn't get it out so I showed him how to make a lever with a Playdough knife to get it out. Well after that his little mind started workin. He wanted to make a "giant" lever to lift up bigger things. There was no stopping that crazy kid. After lifting up my couch, chair, entertainment center, foot stool, heater, coffee table, rykers crib, pipers bed, his bed, trash can and side table, he decided he wanted to go BIG..... "Lets go lift up DAD!!"  so we went to bedroom were the unsuspecting dad lay asleep. Soon we had our lever placed and Donnie was getting quite the exciting wake up call while LD preceded to jack up our bed with Donnie in it. Probably one of the best science lessons a kid could have is successfully ticking off your dad while lifting them up with a giant lever!

Working on his addition and subtraction while I time him.

ABC's

He just likes to color

  Playdough

Our mini lever that started it all

His giant lever.

Well the 4th of July was good to the Davis farm.We had a great time with Donnie's family and the rain was nice. When we got home we had lots of fun with fireworks, well...all of us but piper. she had a little run in with a sparkler it burned through her shirt and burned her stomach. Why she didn't notice a sparkling ball of fire burning through her shirt before it hit her skin is still a mystery to me.

Waiting to start fireworks

Awwww hangin out with Gramps

Just when you.....

thought it was safe......

To celebrate the 4th of July. We call this, When Sparklers Attack!!!!!!!

Got her belly pretty good.

And ruined her shirt.....

Also, We gave cutting my hair a 2nd chance after talking to Erica(Donnie's sister) who cuts her own hair. Needless to say it was quite interesting BUT it turned out awesome! So... no more paying for hair cuts for Mrs. Davis!

Here we go again...

It makes me nervous that my hairstylist is.......

making a grilled cheese while he cuts my hair. He was doing this between cuts... REALLY MAN???!!!!

BUT, it turned out actually really good!

Here's the back. We actually cut it a little shorter after this pic but it's still pretty much looks like this.
